What is Hospice?

Hospice is a special way of caring for people who have a disease that cannot be cured. The focus of hospice is providing comfort and symptom control--not cure.A team of professionals including a social worker, physician, chaplain, a nurse and others work with the hospice patient and their family to make sure the care provided meets their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Bereavement services are available to the family for one year following the patient’s death.

Who Is Eligible?

A resident of Mineral County that has a terminal illness with a life expectancy of less than 6 months, as certified by the patient’s physician who does not want prolonging care or treatment.

Hospice services provide a compassionate, caring staff that not only treats the patient, but the family as well during the patient’s illness and after the patient’s death. Hospice is palliative care for patients at the end of life, who no longer wish to seek curative type treatment, and want death with dignity.
