Potomac Valley Hospital

New Hospital Planning & Construction

The New Potomac Valley Hospital is Under Construction:

The construction of the new Potomac Valley Hospital is in full swing and is slated to be completed in the summer of 2008. The modern 48,000 square foot facility will be located on Pin Oak Lane just off Route 220 adjacent to the Potomac Valley Hospital Physical Therapy/Business Office building. Master planning of the approximately nine acre site will allow room for future expansion and parking will exceed 150 spaces. The new facility will be patient-friendly and provide a better atmosphere than the current facility, which has been a fixture on Mineral Street since November of 1931. It will be a one-story building with 25 spacious inpatient rooms, including a 4-bed Intensive Care Unit, nine emergency treatment rooms, expanded from seven in the current building, and a surgical suite that will house two operating rooms, an endoscopy suite and an outpatient surgical room. The flow of patient traffic and the separation of different types of patients are major design considerations. Patients will be able to find their way throughout the hospital clearly and simply while hospital personnel will be able to deliver the needs of the patient more efficiently. The new facility will focus on outpatient services, placing the Radiology, Laboratory and Same-Day Surgery areas toward the front of the building. The inpatient treatment area will be located toward the rear where it will be quieter and away from the commotion of other areas. Other ancillary areas, including Cardiology and Respiratory Therapy, will be expanded to accommodate more patients.

The General Contractors Struever Brothers, Eccles and Rouse, Inc. from Baltimore have sub-contracted with several local contractors to construct the new facility. Parks Excavation of Keyser cleared the land and completed most of the site work. Mineral Fabrications is currently doing the foundation work while Ray C. Lapp of Cumberland is installing the underground plumbing.

The new facility will be equipped with over $2 million worth of patient equipment, including an entirely new Radiology department consisting of a new 16 slice CT scanner, nuclear medicine system, 2 new radiographic machines and 2 new ultrasound machines. The patient rooms will consist of new hospital beds and patient room furniture. The Nutrition Services department will be equipped with brand new cooking and food storage equipment. The Emergency room will be equipped with a new monitoring equipment and new beds.

Lakeside Architects of McHenry, MD has stepped in to complete the design of the building. RK&K Engineering of Keyser will also work with us to plan the layout of the land and the utility installation. The building will be financed through a consortium of financial institutions lead by First United Bank and Trust.
